A tragic incident unfolded near Akkapalle in Komarolu mandal of Prakasam district, where a couple, Kambagiri Rama and Bharathi, took their own lives by hanging themselves from a tree in a secluded area. The two hailed from Madhavaram village in Pyapili mandal of the Don constituency in Nandyal district . According to initial reports, the couple had been in a close relationship for several years, which gradually developed into a romantic bond. However, their relationship was socially unacceptable due to Bharathi’s marital status and their familial connection.

Bharathi was already married to another man but had been living separately from her husband for the past two years. During this period, she continued her relationship with Rama, despite strong opposition from family elders. The fact that Bharathi was Rama’s younger sister further intensified the backlash from their community and family members. The couple was reportedly under immense pressure and feared being forcibly separated due to mounting societal and familial anger.

In a desperate attempt to stay together, Bharathi and Rama traveled from their native village in Nandyal to Akkapalle on the night of July 5. There, in a remote location, they took the extreme step of ending their lives by hanging themselves using a lungi tied by Rama. Disturbingly, before committing suicide, Rama sent his location via WhatsApp to his father, signaling his intentions and prompting concern. However, help arrived too late to save them.

Sub-Inspector Nagaraju confirmed that a case has been registered and that the police have begun a formal investigation into the circumstances leading up to the tragic deaths. The incident has shocked both districts, highlighting the devastating impact of social stigma and familial pressure. Authorities are expected to probe deeper into the background of the relationship and the possible role of harassment or coercion in the couple’s fatal decision.
