THREE DAYS OF RED ALERT – HOW BAD WILL THE RAIN GET IN TELANGANA?
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Telangana, warning of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over the next three days. Hyderabad, the capital city, is among the worst-hit areas, with key locations like Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, and Khairatabad already facing waterlogging and traffic disruptions.
Rainfall began early in the week but intensified on Tuesday night, continuing without break through Wednesday morning. Many roads have turned into streams, making it difficult for vehicles to move. Commuters faced long delays, with some being stuck in traffic for hours. Emergency services are now on high alert.
The IMD has warned that the heavy downpour is likely to continue, urging people to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary. Schools and colleges have been advised to remain closed until conditions improve. Residents in low-lying areas have also been told to move to safer places temporarily.
In areas like Jubilee Hills and Khairatabad, several houses have reported water entering their compounds. Authorities are working to clear drainage systems, but the continuous rain is making it difficult. Traffic police are also stationed at major junctions to manage the chaos.
GHMC (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation) has set up emergency response teams across the city. These teams are removing fallen trees, unblocking drains, and helping stranded people. Local helplines have also been activated for reporting emergencies and rescue needs.
Social media is flooded with images and videos of flooded roads, damaged vehicles, and frustrated commuters. Many residents are asking the government to improve the city’s drainage infrastructure to avoid such a crisis in the future.
Meteorologists say this rainfall is due to a strong monsoon depression that has formed over the Bay of Bengal. The system is expected to weaken by the weekend, but until then, the risk of flooding and landslides remains high, especially in the northern districts of the state.
Authorities are urging citizens to monitor official weather updates and avoid spreading fake news or panic. With continued coordination between local bodies, emergency teams, and the public, Telangana hopes to weather the storm with minimal damage and loss
