TELANGANA RATION CARD DISTRIBUTION FOR OVER 5.6 LAKH FAMILIES

In a significant development aimed at enhancing welfare access, the Telangana government has launched a massive ration card distribution drive across the state. This initiative, which commenced on July 25, is progressing swiftly and is scheduled to continue until August 10. As of now, grant documents have been handed over to 5.61 lakh eligible families, signaling a major step in the state’s public welfare outreach.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Civil Supplies Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy are personally overseeing the distribution process in various districts. Due to pending finalization of the new ration card designs, the government is currently issuing interim grant documents bearing the photographs of beneficiaries. These documents are being formally distributed in public gatherings, with efforts to ensure transparency and quick delivery.

The interim grant documents will function as temporary ration cards until the new official versions are finalized and printed. Authorities have confirmed that beneficiaries will start receiving ration supplies based on these grant documents starting in September. This approach ensures that families do not face unnecessary delays in accessing subsidized food grains and other essential commodities.

These temporary documents are not just limited to ration access-they are also valid for a range of welfare schemes. Officials have clarified that the grant documents will be accepted under key programs such as Aarogyasri, Telangana’s flagship health insurance scheme, and the Mahalaxmi scheme for women and children. This integration highlights the government’s efforts to ensure seamless access to multiple services through a unified document.

The distribution campaign is being implemented in a phased manner to ensure that all eligible households across urban and rural areas receive their entitlements. Local authorities, ration shop dealers, and volunteers have been mobilized to assist in verification and issuance. The state government has also set up grievance redressal cells at the mandal level to address issues raised by applicants.
