Steps taken for the construction of the second phase of the metro rail

The second phase of the Metro Rail project, extending from MGBS (Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station) to Chandrayaan Gutta, is progressing steadily with key preparatory steps already initiated. On Monday, the government released Rs. 125 crore to support the expansion of the Metro Rail into the Old City areas. This significant allocation marks a firm commitment toward improving public transportation infrastructure and easing congestion in densely populated zones. As part of the groundwork, approximately 311 properties have been acquired by the Hyderabad Airport Metro Rail authorities, indicating that land acquisition and resettlement activities are well underway.

In addition to property acquisition, a compensation package of Rs. 283 crore has been disbursed to affected property owners, ensuring a fair and transparent process. The authorities have emphasized that construction will commence promptly once the necessary approvals are secured from the central government. This phase is expected to enhance connectivity between central Hyderabad and southern parts of the city, particularly benefiting residents of the Old City. The project aims to deliver modern, efficient transport options while respecting the cultural and structural sensitivities of the historic region.
