Son Kills Father Over Land Share in Suryapet District

Family Land Dispute Escalates in Vibhalapuram Village

Venkanna and Lingamma, a farming couple from Vibhalapuram in Mothe mandal of Suryapet district, have dedicated their lives to raising their two sons and a daughter on the earnings from their four acres of land. Their elder son, Gangaiah, has recently demanded a division of the land, insisting on being given two acres as his rightful share. This demand has caused growing tensions within the family.

The situation became more complicated when Lingamma fell seriously ill. To cover her rising medical expenses, Venkanna was compelled to sell two of the four acres. Out of the remaining land, he gave half an acre to his daughter, leaving only one and a half acres in his possession. Gangaiah, however, has not accepted this decision and has continued to insist on receiving two acres, as initially claimed.

Despite the repeated interventions by village elders who advised Gangaiah to reconsider his stance for the sake of family peace, the land dispute remains unresolved. Venkanna has not yielded to his son’s demands, maintaining that the decisions made were out of necessity and fairness. The daughter has reportedly remained silent on the matter, while the younger son has not taken a public stand.

As the conflict intensifies, Gangaiah has reportedly grown hostile towards his father. The tension in the household has become a subject of concern in the village, where many view the issue as a tragic breakdown of family unity over land. Elders continue to mediate, hoping for a peaceful resolution before the dispute leads to further emotional or legal fallout.

Venkanna was on his way from Suryapet to Vibhalapuram on his bike when his son Gangaiah, who had hidden somewhere in the middle of the road, attacked him with an axe. Venkanna, who was seriously injured, was rushed to Suryapet Hospital by his family members. Venkanna died while undergoing treatment. Mothe police say they have registered a case based on a complaint by Venkanna’s family members and are investigating.
