Since when is the free bus scheme in AP?
ndhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has made a significant announcement regarding women’s welfare in the state. He declared that free bus travel for women will be implemented starting from August 15, 2025. This decision is seen as a major step towards women’s empowerment and financial relief for households. The move is expected to benefit lakhs of women across the state, especially those from low-income families who rely on public transportation for daily commuting.
Speaking to the media, Chandrababu Naidu clarified the specifics of the scheme. He stated that free travel will be applicable within the borders of Andhra Pradesh and will cover travel between villages, towns, and cities using APSRTC (Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation) buses. He emphasized that this scheme is aimed at encouraging women’s mobility, especially for those engaged in work, education, and healthcare-related travel. However, luxury and air-conditioned services will not be covered under the scheme.
The Chief Minister also assured that the implementation process will be smooth and well-monitored to avoid misuse. Special instructions will be given to APSRTC staff to facilitate the initiative without hurdles. The government is currently working on issuing guidelines and identification mechanisms, possibly through Aadhaar-based verification, to ensure that the benefit reaches genuine beneficiaries. This welfare measure adds to Chandrababu Naidu’s broader focus on inclusive governance and development under his new administration.
