Is the Telangana Government Set to Cancel Bogus Pensions?

The Telangana government is preparing to take a bold step to weed out irregularities in its pension schemes. A major crackdown is being planned on those who are availing pensions through fraudulent means. Officials have found that many people are illegally receiving pensions by submitting fake documents, using the names of deceased persons, or by falsely claiming disabilities through fake Sadaram certificates. This misuse has led to a significant burden on the state exchequer, prompting the government to take strict corrective action.

To identify and eliminate these bogus beneficiaries, the government will soon form special verification teams at the district and mandal levels. These teams will conduct door-to-door verification and cross-check Aadhaar numbers, government employee databases, death records, and disability certification records. Anyone found to be receiving pensions despite being ineligible such as family members of government employees, fake disability certificate holders, or those receiving multiple pensions will have their benefits immediately cancelled.

However, the government has made it clear that genuine beneficiaries need not worry. Those who meet all the eligibility criteria and have the proper documents will continue to receive their pensions without interruption. This move is aimed at improving transparency in welfare schemes and ensuring that the funds reach only the truly deserving citizens. The government also warned that legal action may be taken against those found guilty of pension fraud.
