These companies set up their largest campuses outside the United States in Hyderabad, proving the city’s potential.

One of the major reasons for this success is the affordability of the city. Compared to Bengaluru, Hyderabad offers cheaper office spaces, lower living costs, and better infrastructure. This helped both startups and big companies expand operations here without heavy expenses.

Government Policies Supporting IT Growth

The Telangana government has played a big role in creating this IT-friendly environment. Policies such as TS-iPASS (Telangana State Industrial Project Approval and Self-Certification System) made it easier for companies to set up operations quickly without long approval delays.

Another initiative, T-Hub, became India’s largest startup incubator, supporting young entrepreneurs with funding, mentorship, and global connections. Schemes like WE Hub encouraged women entrepreneurs to enter the technology sector. These policies gave Telangana an edge over other states.

The government also focused on developing Tier-II cities such as Warangal, Karimnagar, and Khammam as mini IT hubs. This not only reduced pressure on Hyderabad but also created job opportunities across the state.

Skilled Workforce and Educational Strength

A big reason behind Telangana’s IT growth is its skilled workforce. Every year, thousands of students graduate from universities and engineering colleges in Hyderabad and nearby districts. Institutions like IIIT Hyderabad, JNTU, and Osmania University produce highly talented engineers, software developers, and researchers.

The presence of global companies also helps employees gain international-level exposure while staying in India. With the rising demand for artificial intelligence, data science, cloud computing, and cybersecurity, Telangana has started skill development programs to train youth for future jobs.

Infrastructure Advantage

Hyderabad has a strong advantage when it comes to infrastructure. The city is well connected through the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, one of the busiest in the country, making global travel easy for IT professionals. The Outer Ring Road (ORR) and upcoming metro rail expansion provide smooth connectivity within the city.

In addition, the state government is building new IT parks, data centers, and special economic zones (SEZs) to attract more investments. This combination of good connectivity, modern office spaces, and better lifestyle makes Hyderabad a preferred destination for IT companies.

Competition with Bengaluru

Even though Hyderabad has grown rapidly, Bengaluru is still the top IT hub of India. It has decades of experience, global recognition, and a massive number of startups. But Bengaluru faces challenges like traffic jams, high living costs, and shortage of office space.

Hyderabad is trying to take advantage of these weaknesses. Many companies have shifted part of their operations from Bengaluru to Hyderabad for smoother business functioning. If this trend continues, Telangana may soon overtake Bengaluru in terms of growth rate, if not in size.

Challenges Telangana Must Overcome

To truly become India’s biggest IT hub, Telangana must overcome some challenges.

Traffic and Urban Planning – Although better than Bengaluru, Hyderabad’s traffic is slowly becoming a problem as the city expands.

Power and Water Supply – With more companies and people moving in, demand for resources will increase. Telangana needs to plan sustainable solutions.

Cybersecurity Threats – As IT grows, the risk of data theft and cybercrime also rises. Strong cybersecurity laws and infrastructure are necessary.

Skilling Beyond Hyderabad – Tier-II cities must develop strong talent pools, or else Hyderabad will face too much pressure like Bengaluru.

Telangana is on the right track. The combination of government support, global companies, young talent, and strong infrastructure has already made Hyderabad a top IT destination. In the next few years, with continued focus on sustainability, better city planning, and skill development, Telangana has a real chance to become the biggest IT hub of India.
