New Delhi, August 15, 2025  The nation of over 1.4 billion people came together today to celebrate the 79th Independence Day with patriotic fervor, unity, and renewed aspirations for the future. At the iconic Red Fort in the heart of the capital, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unfurled the tricolour for the twelfth consecutive year, marking yet another chapter in India’s journey as a sovereign nation.

The celebrations began early in the morning with the traditional hoisting of the national flag, accompanied by a 21-gun salute and the resonant strains of the national anthem. The historic Red Fort grounds, adorned with the colors of the flag, witnessed the presence of dignitaries, defense personnel, school children, and citizens from across the country, all eager to be part of this significant moment.

In his address, Prime Minister Modi paid homage to the countless freedom fighters whose sacrifices paved the way for India’s independence in 1947. He also acknowledged the contributions of those in uniform, highlighting the nation’s defense readiness and recent achievements, including Operation Sindoor, a strategic success that demonstrated India’s military capabilities and commitment to national security.

“India’s strength lies in the courage of its soldiers, the determination of its citizens, and the vision of its leaders,” Modi said, reminding the country that safeguarding sovereignty requires both vigilance and unity.

Call for Aatmanirbhar Bharat

One of the central themes of Modi’s speech was the continued push for Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India). He stressed that self-reliance is not just about economic independence but also about technological innovation, sustainable growth, and resilience in critical sectors such as manufacturing, defense production, agriculture, and renewable energy.

He urged industries, entrepreneurs, and youth to take bold steps in innovation and entrepreneurship, noting that a self-reliant India can become a global leader in the decades ahead. “We must produce, design, and innovate in India—not just for our own needs but for the world,” he emphasized.

Viksit Bharat by 2047: A National Aspiration

The Prime Minister reiterated his vision of Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047, when the nation will celebrate its 100th year of independence. This roadmap, he explained, includes improving infrastructure, boosting education and skill development, ensuring healthcare access for all, enhancing women’s participation in the workforce, and achieving carbon neutrality.

Modi stressed that achieving this goal would require collective effort from every citizen, regardless of region, language, or background. “We must dream together, work together, and rise together,” he said, adding that India’s diversity is its greatest strength.

Highlighting Social and Economic Progress

During his address, Modi outlined the government’s recent achievements record agricultural output, growth in digital payments, expansion of rural electrification, advancements in space exploration, and increased foreign investment. He cited these as proof that India’s economic momentum is strong despite global uncertainties.

Special mention was made of technological breakthroughs such as India’s advances in semiconductor manufacturing, 5G deployment, and AI-driven solutions for governance. “The world is looking at India as a hub for innovation, and it is our responsibility to live up to that trust,” he said.

People’s Participation in Nation-Building

The Prime Minister appealed to the youth to take ownership of the nation’s progress by engaging in community development, environmental protection, and civic responsibility. He encouraged people to adopt sustainable lifestyles, reduce waste, and contribute to cleanliness drives under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

Women’s empowerment was also a key focus, with Modi asserting that India cannot become developed without ensuring gender equality. He promised continued support for women entrepreneurs, expanded opportunities in STEM fields, and better representation in decision-making roles.

A Day of Celebration Across the Nation

Beyond Delhi, the spirit of Independence Day was alive in every state and union territory. School children performed patriotic songs and dances, cultural programs showcased India’s rich heritage, and government buildings were illuminated in the tricolour. From Kashmir to Kanyakumari, the day was marked with flag-hoisting ceremonies, parades, and community gatherings.

In villages and towns, citizens took part in local events, often blending tradition with modern celebrations. Social media platforms were flooded with tributes, historic photos, and messages of unity.

A Promise for the Future

Concluding his speech, PM Modi reminded citizens that the road ahead may be challenging but is full of opportunity. “We stand at the threshold of a new era. The choices we make today will shape the destiny of generations to come,” he said.

As the celebrations came to a close, the skies over the Red Fort were filled with saffron, white, and green balloons, symbolizing hope and pride.
