The Bonala festival, a significant cultural and spiritual celebration in Telangana, has commenced with great fervor in Hyderabad. Marking the onset of Ashada Masam, the festivities began with the offering of Bonam to Goddess Jagadambika at the historic Golconda Fort. This annual event, deeply rooted in tradition, witnesses lakhs of devotees offering Bonam—rice cooked with milk and jaggery in decorated pots while seeking the blessings of the Goddess. As part of the month-long celebration, various temples across the city will host rituals and processions until July 24.
In anticipation of the massive turnout, the Hyderabad Traffic Police have enforced special traffic regulations to manage the flow and ensure safety. Certain roads leading to Golconda, Secunderabad Ujjaini Mahankali Temple, and Old City areas have restricted vehicle movement during peak hours of the festivities. Additionally, designated parking zones have been set up around key temples to prevent congestion and facilitate smooth access for pilgrims. Clear signages and route diversions have also been put in place to guide devotees efficiently.
To ensure a seamless experience for all participants, the city administration has taken comprehensive safety and crowd control measures. Extra security personnel have been deployed, first-aid and medical services arranged at key points, and drinking water facilities ensured. Special sanitation drives are being conducted near temple premises to maintain hygiene. Authorities have also requested citizens to cooperate with police instructions and use public transportation where possible to ease traffic burdens.
