Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has fulfilled a promise that highlights both his commitment to the arts and his recognition of local talent. On the auspicious occasion of the Bonalu festival, he announced a grand reward of ₹1 crore for Hyderabad-based singer Rahul Sipligunj, who gained international acclaim after the Oscar win for the song “Naatu Naatu” from the film RRR. This gesture not only celebrates Rahul’s global recognition but also reinforces the Telangana government’s intent to encourage and uplift artists from the region.

Rahul Sipligunj, along with Kala Bhairava, delivered a high-energy performance of “Naatu Naatu” at the 95th Academy Awards in March 2023, where the song triumphed in the Best Original Song category. It was a historic moment for Indian cinema, as the Telugu song became the first Indian production to win in this prestigious category. The song, composed by M.M. Keeravani and penned by Chandrabose, had already taken the world by storm before the Oscar win, but the Academy recognition pushed it to iconic status globally.

CM Revanth Reddy had initially acknowledged Rahul’s contribution with a ₹10 lakh incentive when he was serving as the TPCC President, during an event held on 12 May 2023. At that time, he publicly stated that Rahul would receive ₹1 crore if the Congress came to power in Telangana. With the formation of the new government under his leadership, Revanth Reddy has now delivered on that promise, earning appreciation from various quarters for honoring his word.

During the announcement, the Chief Minister lauded Rahul Sipligunj as a “mentor to the youth of Telangana,” emphasizing the singer’s humble beginnings and determination. Rahul’s journey from the streets of Hyderabad to the Oscar stage is seen as a powerful source of inspiration for aspiring musicians and artists in the state. Revanth Reddy noted that Rahul represents the spirit of Telangana—resilient, creative, and ambitious.

This cash reward is more than a token of appreciation; it symbolizes a shift in how regional artists are being acknowledged on a governmental level. It sets a precedent for institutional support and recognition for talent that contributes to the cultural and artistic pride of Telangana on a global scale. Rahul’s success story, now further amplified by this reward, sends a clear message that hard work and talent from even the most modest backgrounds can shine on the world stage.

The people of Telangana have welcomed this move, seeing it as an example of a government that stands by its cultural icons. By keeping his promise, Revanth Reddy has strengthened his rapport with the public, particularly the youth and creative communities. As Rahul continues to inspire, this gesture will likely motivate more artists to pursue excellence with the belief that their efforts will not go unnoticed, either by the nation or by their own state.
