Google has officially inaugurated its first Asia–Pacific Google Safety Engineering Centre (GSEC) in Hyderabad, marking a major step toward bolstering online safety and digital trust across the region. This state-of-the-art facility is the second of its kind globally, after the one in Munich, and will serve as a key hub for developing cutting-edge safety tools and technologies that protect users from online threats such as scams, misinformation, and abuse.
The centre will bring together hundreds of cybersecurity experts, engineers, and researchers to work on advanced safety initiatives. Google has emphasized that the Hyderabad GSEC will focus on building products and features that ensure privacy, protect user data, and make the internet safer for everyone especially vulnerable and first-time users in emerging markets. These tools will be designed not just for India but for global application, showcasing India’s growing influence in tech innovation.
This initiative is being carried out in collaboration with the Telangana government, which welcomed Google’s investment as a major milestone for the state’s digital and economic landscape. Telangana’s leadership highlighted that this partnership aligns with their vision of transforming the state into a global tech and innovation powerhouse. The centre is also expected to provide new job opportunities and boost local expertise in cybersecurity and safety engineering.
