Ex-CM YS Jagan Booked for Rally Death: Political Tempers Flare

The June 18 road fatality in Andhra Pradesh’s Palnadu district has escalated into a political storm after police filed a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, naming former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, along with his driver, personal assistant, and several aides as accused. Viral video footage allegedly shows a vehicle from Jagan’s convoy running over a man at close range during a political rally, sparking public outrage. The FIR marks a serious legal and political development, as it directly implicates a former CM in a criminal case with grave charges.

The incident has triggered sharp reactions from both ruling and opposition camps. The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) condemned the FIR as politically motivated, accusing the TDP-led government of vendetta politics aimed at tarnishing Jagan’s image post-elections. Meanwhile, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has called for accountability, arguing that no one is above the law, regardless of political stature. With emotions running high, the issue is poised to dominate the state’s political discourse in the coming days.
