Prakash Shah is a former Vice President at Reliance Industries, where he had a distinguished career lasting over a decade. A chemical engineer by training with both a BTech and MTech from IIT Bombay, he played a pivotal role in Reliance’s Jamnagar project—most notably overseeing the petcoke gasification initiative and managed petcoke marketing during his tenure. He retired in 2020 but had long nurtured a desire to renounce worldly life and embrace spirituality. Upon retirement, he declined a lucrative salary and relinquished his corporate position to pursue a path less traveled.
In April 2021, Shah and his wife Naina formally embraced the Jain tradition of diksha, becoming ascetics in a ceremony held at the Gitanjali Jain Temple in Borivali on Mahavir Jayanti. They now live according to the austere discipline of Jain monastic life: wearing simple white robes, walking barefoot, and sustaining themselves through alm. This spiritual shift follows a family tradition one of their sons, an IIT Bombay engineering graduate, took diksha about seven years earlier, joining his parents on this path of renunciation
