Cognizant to Invest ₹1,582 Crore in Visakhapatnam IT Campus, Create 8,000 Jobs
Cognizant Technology Solutions has unveiled plans to build a world‑class IT/ITES campus in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, backed by a substantial ₹1,582.98 crore (approximately $183 million) investment.
This ambitious development is part of a larger vision by the Andhra Pradesh government to transform the city known as the “City of Destiny” into a thriving technology hub, akin to Hyderabad’s Hitec City.
The state has also offered Cognizant 21.31 acres of prime land near Rushikonda for just 99 paise per acre, underscoring its urgency in attracting and nurturing IT investments.
Scheduled to commence commercial operations by March 2029, the campus is expected to generate approximately 8,000 new jobs over the next eight years
This fits into Cognizant’s larger strategy of relocating operations to tier‑2 cities in India, aiming to reduce real estate costs and tap into regional talent pools
The initiative arrived on the heels of a high‑level discussion between Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh and Cognizant CEO S. Ravi Kumar at the World Economic Forum in Davos earlier this year, where the minister affirmed the state’s readiness to support such expansions.
This move aligns perfectly with broader tech developments in Visakhapatnam, where other major players including TCS, Infosys, Google, and HCL are either investing in or planning large-scale operations.
. In recent years, Andhra Pradesh has aggressively promoted the creation of a 500‑acre “Data City” in Madhurawada, aiming to host deep‑tech facilities, AI research, data centres, and Global Capability Centres.
Cognizant’s new campus is a major milestone in this multi-pronged effort to position Visakhapatnam as an emerging IT powerhouse.
