Hyderabad, August 15: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has officially released the admit cards for the much-anticipated Civil Services Examination (CSE) Mains 2025. Aspirants who have successfully cleared the preliminary stage can now gear up for the next and most crucial phase of the examination process. The Mains exams are scheduled to be held on August 22, 23, 24, 30, and 31, 2025, across various centers in the country.

The CSE Mains is known for its comprehensive and challenging nature, designed to assess a candidate’s depth of knowledge, analytical skills, and ability to express ideas clearly. According to the UPSC’s official notification, the examinations will be held in two daily sessions on the scheduled dates. The morning session will run from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, while the afternoon session will take place from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. Candidates are advised to strictly adhere to the timings and reporting guidelines mentioned in their admit cards.

How to Download the Admit Card

Candidates can access their UPSC CSE Mains 2025 hall tickets through the commission’s official website. By entering their registration ID or roll number along with the date of birth, aspirants can download the document and print it for entry into the examination hall. The admit card also contains vital information such as the candidate’s name, roll number, examination center address, subject codes, and important instructions for the exam day.

Significance of the Mains Examination

The Civil Services Examination is conducted in three stages: Preliminary, Mains, and Personality Test (Interview). While the Prelims test general awareness and screening capability, the Mains stage is a detailed written examination that carries a much larger weight in the final merit calculation. Consisting of nine papers—two qualifying and seven merit-based—the Mains tests candidates on a wide range of subjects, including essay writing, general studies, and optional subjects chosen by the candidate.

Performance in the Mains examination plays a decisive role in determining who will be called for the interview round. Hence, for thousands of aspirants, this stage is not just another exam, but the ultimate opportunity to showcase intellectual depth and clarity of thought.

Exam Day Guidelines

The UPSC has urged candidates to carefully read the instructions printed on the admit card. Candidates must carry the printed admit card and a valid photo identity proof such as an Aadhaar card, voter ID, or passport to the venue. Electronic devices like mobile phones, smartwatches, calculators, and other communication tools are strictly prohibited inside the examination hall. Candidates are also advised to reach the venue well in advance to complete security and identity verification procedures.

Expert Advice for Candidates

Experts suggest that candidates should focus on revising their optional subject thoroughly, along with practicing answer-writing for general studies papers. Time management is considered crucial in Mains exams, where lengthy, analytical answers are expected within a strict three-hour limit. Candidates are also reminded to practice previous years’ question papers to get a better understanding of the exam pattern and difficulty level.

Next Steps After Mains

Once the Mains examination concludes, UPSC will begin evaluating answer sheets, and results are expected to be announced within a few months. Candidates who clear the Mains will move to the Personality Test/Interview stage, where they will be assessed on their communication skills, leadership qualities, ethical reasoning, and suitability for administrative roles.

The UPSC Civil Services Examination remains one of the most competitive and prestigious recruitment processes in India, offering entry into elite services such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Indian Police Service (IPS). Each year, only a small fraction of the lakhs of aspirants who apply manage to make it to the final merit list.

With the release of the admit cards, the countdown to Mains 2025 has officially begun. For aspirants, the next few days will be a race against time balancing revision, answer-writing practice, and mental preparation for one of the most defining examinations of their careers.
