Licenses of nearly 19,000 people suspended in Telangana

The Telangana Transport Department has intensified its enforcement measures against reckless driving and violations of transport rules, aiming to enhance road safety across the state. In a recently released progress report, the department revealed that a total of 18,973 driving licenses have been suspended between December 2023 and June 2025. This significant action underscores the government’s commitment to curbing dangerous behavior on the roads and ensuring strict adherence to traffic laws.

According to officials, the majority of the suspensions were issued for serious offenses, including drunk driving, excessive speeding, and driving under the influence of drugs. These violations not only endanger the lives of the drivers themselves but also pose severe risks to other road users. The department has been actively using surveillance tools, traffic monitoring systems, and special enforcement drives to identify and penalize repeat offenders and violators.

Authorities have also launched awareness campaigns to educate the public about the consequences of traffic violations and the importance of safe driving practices. The Transport Department has emphasized that such strict action will continue in the future, and drivers found flouting rules will face legal and administrative consequences, including temporary or permanent suspension of their driving licenses. The state’s proactive approach reflects a broader effort to create safer roads and reduce traffic-related accidents and fatalities
