600 Devotees Fall Ill Amid Scorching Puri Jagannath Rath Yatra

The world-renowned Puri Jagannath Rath Yatra is currently taking place with grandeur and religious fervor. Devotees from across India and abroad have gathered in large numbers to witness and participate in this annual spiritual procession. The streets of Puri are filled with chants, music, and the rhythmic pulling of the massive chariots carrying Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra, creating a divine and festive atmosphere.

However, amid the celebrations, a concerning incident occurred. Around 600 devotees fell seriously ill due to the intense heat, high humidity, and overcrowding. The severe weather conditions took a toll on many participants who were standing in the sun for prolonged periods. The situation became critical as the heatwave combined with the packed crowds led to cases of dehydration, exhaustion, and fainting.

Officials have responded swiftly, deploying medical teams and ambulances to provide first aid and shift the affected individuals to nearby hospitals. Authorities confirmed that, fortunately, there has been no loss of life, and the condition of most patients is stable. The incident has prompted local administration to enhance health and safety measures for the remainder of the Yatra to ensure the well-being of the pilgrims.
