Gujarat Government Confirms 275 Dead in Ahmedabad Plane Crash

1. Official death toll confirmed

On June 24, the Gujarat Health Department officially announced that the tragic accident on June 12 resulted in 275 fatalities comprising 241 passengers and crew aboard the Boeing 787–8 Dreamliner and 34 individuals on the ground at the BJ Medical College hostel site.

This marks the first time an exact figure has been released, following intensive DNA and facial-recognition efforts to rigorously identify all victims. Authorities emphasized that all remains have been recovered and accounted for.

2. Victim identification process

As of the same day, 266 of the 275 deceased have been identified 260 via DNA analysis and an additional six through facial recognition,   

  A large-scale forensic operation handled 260 bodies: 253 identified through DNA and six through visual matching, with one DNA profile still pending due to degraded evidence.

So far, 256 identified remains have been released to grieving families, with remaining identifications and repatriations underway, including for several foreign nationals.
