First Bonam at Golconda Marks Grand Start to Bonalu Festivities

Tomorrow marks the first Bonam offering of the season at the historic Sri Jagadamba Mahankali Temple in Golconda Fort, Hyderabad. This traditional ritual, part of the Ashada Jatara, is a deeply revered beginning of the Bonalu festival. Devotees, dressed in vibrant attire, will carry decorated pots filled with rice, jaggery, curd, and turmeric water, symbolizing their devotion and gratitude to the goddess for her protection and blessings. The fort’s ancient walls echo with the rhythm of drums and folk songs, as thousands flock to offer their prayers in a lively, spiritual atmosphere.

This first Bonam sets the stage for the month-long celebration across Telangana, especially in Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The rituals at Golconda are considered especially significant, as they are performed in honor of the presiding deity of the region, Mahankali Amma, believed to be the protector of the city. Special security and traffic arrangements are in place to handle the large turnout, and cultural performances and traditional food stalls will further enhance the festive spirit. This event not only upholds Telangana’s rich cultural heritage but also unites people across communities in devotion and celebration
