ANDHRA PRADESH LAUNCHES BOLD PUBLIC EDUCATION REFORMS

In a significant move to revolutionize the state’s public education system, Andhra Pradesh’s Education Minister, Nara Lokesh, has unveiled a comprehensive 100-day action plan aimed at transforming government schools into high-performing institutions that rival private ones. This initiative aligns with the state’s broader goal of prioritizing education reform and youth development. Lokesh emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring quality education that is accessible to every child, regardless of socioeconomic background.

Among the highlights of this initiative is the distribution of free textbooks and mid-day meals at junior colleges previously only offered at school levels. This measure is expected to improve attendance and retention rates among older students. Additionally, the plan includes the rollout of a “No to Drugs” campaign aimed at raising awareness among students about substance abuse, fostering a healthier and more disciplined academic environment. Lokesh has also promised infrastructure upgrades, digital learning tools, and teacher support as part of the reform package.

A major component of the plan is Mission Akshara Andhra, which aims to achieve 100% literacy across the state. The mission will involve large-scale community engagement, digital learning initiatives, and local language content to ensure inclusive education. The government has stated its intention to monitor progress through data-driven tools and regular assessments. Overall, these reforms mark an ambitious yet promising direction for Andhra Pradesh’s public education landscape, with the ultimate goal of setting a national benchmark.
