NEET PG 2025 Postponed by Supreme Court Order
The NEET PG 2025 examination, which was originally scheduled for June 15, 2025, has been officially postponed following a directive from the Supreme Court of India. The court intervened due to concerns about the limited time given to aspirants for preparation, especially in light of changes to the exam pattern and technical issues faced by candidates in recent years. This sudden decision has created a wave of mixed reactions among medical students and institutions across the country.
The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) is expected to announce the revised exam date soon. In its brief notification, NBEMS stated that the exam will now be conducted in a single shift, unlike earlier years where multiple sessions were held to accommodate the large number of candidates. Authorities have assured that the new date will provide all aspirants a fair and equal opportunity to prepare, with proper guidelines and transparency.
This decision comes after several student petitions and complaints were submitted to both NBEMS and the Ministry of Health, citing that many final-year MBBS students did not have sufficient time between their internship completion and the exam date. The Supreme Court acknowledged these concerns, saying that a “fair opportunity” is essential for such a high-stakes competitive examination, which determines future postgraduate placements for thousands of doctors in India.
The postponement, though welcomed by many students, has also caused confusion regarding counseling schedules, academic calendars, and hospital duty planning. Institutions now await further clarification from the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) and the Health Ministry on whether this delay will impact the start of the PG academic session. Students are advised to keep a close eye on the official NBEMS website and updates from the Ministry to avoid misinformation.
