Hyderabad Metro Revises Fare Structure Effective May 17
Effective May 17, 2025, the Hyderabad Metro Rail has implemented a revised fare structure aimed at balancing operational costs with commuter convenience. The new fare system sees the base fare set at ₹12, marking a marginal increase from previous rates. This revised pricing applies uniformly across all metro lines and stations, and is structured to scale with the distance traveled. The move is expected to help Hyderabad Metro maintain its service quality amid rising infrastructure and maintenance expenses.
Under the new fare system, commuters traveling between 6 to 9 kilometers will now be charged ₹40, while those covering distances from 9 to 12 kilometers will pay ₹50. The fare increases gradually with distance, designed to ensure affordability for short-distance travelers while appropriately pricing longer journeys. Metro authorities have stated that the revisions were made after a comprehensive study of passenger patterns and feedback, along with an assessment of inflationary pressures on operational overheads.
While some daily commuters have expressed concerns about the increased rates, the Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) emphasized that the revised fare chart is essential to sustaining efficient and safe operations. They also noted that the metro remains one of the most cost-effective and environmentally sustainable modes of public transportation in the city. The fare revision is accompanied by improvements in frequency, station amenities, and digital ticketing options to enhance the overall commuter experience.
